Greek filmmakers at the Passport Controll Summer Workshop

Two Greek filmmakers will come to this year's Passport Controll - Summer Art Workshops and Community Gathering, to lead film workshop for students. Film director Karina Logothetis and sound designer Vasilis Zlatanos won the award for the most original short film at the 33rd edition of the Mediawave Film Festival this year, with their short fiction Pebble.

Karina Logothetis is a filmmaker and photographer based in Athens Greece and Los Angeles. For the past decade she has been working in the film and TV industry as a writer, director or script supervisor in more than 30 productions as well as in the fashion industry as a photographer. Her work is being taught in high schools and universities in her hometown Thessaloniki. Karina is also the producer of Discovery Days, a script development lab in LA. She holds a BA in photography and audiovisual arts from TEI of Athens, obtained a filmmaking diploma from SAE, studied theory of cinema in Paul Valery III, Montpellier and attended workshops like Directing Actors at Sundance and Set & Production Design in AKTO.

Vasilis Zlatanos first got into music by learning the electric bass. He co-founded the band VIPERVIKINGS, releasing 3 EPs and 1 LP and winning the RedBull Bedroom Jam competition. He has worked as a sound design artist, sound mixer and composer for film and theater, winning a best original score award (Drama Film Festival) for the film VOURVOUROU. His latest project is called Club Zothique, mostly focusing on electronic, electro acoustic and experimental music.

Their collaborative work, Pebble, won the award for the most original short fiction film at the 33rd Mediawave International Film and Music Festival, held at the Cirkó-Gejzír Film Theatre in Budapest, between 25-27 April 2023. Alongside this, it also gained awards like Jury Award for Best Story at the Hollywood Screenings Film Festival and Orpheus Award for Best Short Film at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF), and it was also nominated for other prizes several times.

A short trailer of the film can be found here.

Abstract of the short film:

When a therapist’s daughter decides to break into her mother’s office, steal all the medication and end her life, an uninvited patient walks in and is desperately asking for help. What follows is a very unorthodox therapy session, where the therapist is not a real professional. The two women bond over their mutual journeys of loss and grief and inspire one another to keep coping with having lost a loved one.

Karina and Vasilis will give a session at the Mediawave Passport Controll film workshop at Kund Castle in Somogyfajsz, between 17-23 July 2023.
