’ROMA IS BEAUTIFUL’ –„A ROMA GYÖNYÖRŰ”
FREE FOR 4 ROMA MEMBERS IN EACH WORKSHOP!
PROMOTED BY THE NORWAY GRANTS!
This year's first workshop (26-28 March) helped to learn the basic skills which made it easier to be more confident during the next courses. (MEDIAWAVE Festival, MEDIAWAVE Summer Camp).
This year's last workshop is going to be a closure, a summary and is would like to be a preparation to next year's – hopefully international - continuation.
The workshop is open primarily to people above 16 years old.
The workshop does not function in a school system and it is not compulsory! It builds up on personal ambitions. Participating helps to find out which section of art is suitable mostly for the student.
It is already seen from the works of film, music and photo made during the last three workshops – webpage, gallery - that the ones who participated more times on the very much practice centered training workshops, acquired a primary or intermediate professional knowledge that gives a strong basis for continuing in the future in the specified areas. Creating at the workshops improved the participant's sensitivity for art and made it real through teaching practical skills. Teamwork also develops the sense of cooperation against egocentrism.
Working, cooperating and realization of art does not stop. It continues for previous participants.
It is also open for new enquirers according to the following:
IS IT FOR YOU?
It is for you if you want to put yourself to the test in an area which might be completely new for you or you can reassure your knowledge in an area which you are already familiar with through teamwork.
“Together through thick and thin” is a project which was inspired by social responsibility. Our aim is to give an opportunity to roma (gypsy) and non-roma (not gypsy) young people to get to know each other, to try cooperation, working, creating together. To work in mixed groups (roma and non-roma participants) is an important element. This created very exciting and very good quality collaborations during the past three workshops. For evidence please visit the gallery on the homepage and have a look for yourself eg. Films by beginner director Barbara Kránitz's Railway Station and Kampie or the more proficient Róbert Papp's ABC. Photos by Ildikó Fábián, Nóra Hágeb, Bognár Brigitta. Concerts by the Roma & Hungarian Music Workshop led by György Ferenczi.
FILM – PHOTO
It is for you if you find movie making, photographing attractive and you are thinking about digging a little deeper. This is also for you if you already started experimenting but you think you could still use some excellent expert's professional skills during the lectures and practice especially in the very wide raging film area. Or if you are searching for the closest section in the complex film making activity. You can choose what interests you most: being an actor/actress, director, script writer, animator, cameraman, editor, lighting or sound editor?
The film and photo workshop helps to get started or affirm your existing professional knowledge by providing short theoretical lectures. On the other hand the participant becomes familiar with the fundamental skills of these professions during the film making or photo taking process individually or in teamworks. It is also possible to join a proficient production as an assistant of a director, cameraman, editor, lighting or sound editor.
At the end of the workshop the films and photo sequences will be presented and evaluated. The audience can also vote for the best. The ones who polled the most get presents and they win a free participating opportunity in the next workshop. Previous winners:film– photo.
SPECIAL THEME
This year's speciality in the film workshop is the narration in the film or film narration. (Taking the short time in consideration.)
Participants can make a short film including the following text in any kind of environment or surroundings. We would like to call the applicant's attention to think in a 3 day workshop including the last version of the script, shooting, editing and sound editing. The works can be visions, etudes, photo series but if someone wants to put the text in a short fiction situation that's also possible.
The text which should be used:
“Life has no meaning. God punished me. He waited until I collect a fortune than He bound my soul and washed my wealth away with a storm. First He blessed me with things I have, than He punished me, took my soul away. I had enough money to build a house...so high that you could have reached the Moon. Evil destiny beat me. But the longer I try to dig in my mind how this could have happened, the bigger mess I find in my brain and the farer I get from the truth. Maybe you cursed me when I said I don't believe anyone since I found myself lying to myself. Than you said: “If you don't believe anyone God will turn away from you and no God, no man can turn to you.”
MUSIC
The participants of the Gipsy & Hungarian Underground Ethno Music Workshop consist mostly of previous workshop participants who became very much connected to each other during this last year. It is possible for new members to join if the instrument and the applicant's mentality richens and adds to the now existing group's strength. In this session they are going to try to mix authentic folk music with electronic. This way it is going to be more experimental.
